What is a Ventile fabric?
Ventile® is a completely natural fabric made from cotton. Ventile® fabrics are 100% cotton, utilising the finest, long staple fibres, only found in the top 2% of the world’s crop. After gentle spinning and doubling, the yarn is woven into a very dense weave, using up to 30% more yarn than conventional woven fabrics.
Can you dye Ventile?
Due to the incredibly dense structure of the fabric, Ventile® is pre-treated and dyed using a specifically developed process to ensure the best possible dye penetration, whilst avoiding creases, stains, stripes and shading which would affect the end product.
How good is Ventile?
Ventile’s chief attributes are its soft hand, windproof quality, and high breathability. It works great in cool-to-cold, dry conditions. It’s also fine when it’s cold and snowy out. Anyway, in the U.S., Gore-Tex pretty much killed off Ventile, even though Gore-Tex is more expensive, less durable, and less breathable.
Is Stotz Etaproof waterproof?

Is bonded cotton waterproof?
Pros: Has a reputation for being quite waterproof and durable. Particularly well suited to longer coats. Modern bonded cotton is at least moderately breathable.

Can you dye waxed cotton?
Can you dye Waxed Canvas? Canvas is dyed prior to waxing, once waxed it cannot be dyed.
How do you reproof Ventiles?
Reproofing your garment Our recommendation is to use Nikwax® TX Direct – and not Cotton Proof as is suggested by Ventile. Wash in Nikwax® TX Direct using the same settings and precautions for the initial wash. Always undertake a cleaning wash in Nikwax Tech Wash prior to washing in the proofer.
Is rubberised cotton breathable?
Rubberized cotton will not let water through. Although neither will a garbage bag, and it’s essentially as breathable. Not at all breathable, i.e., you will sweat, and if you sweat enough, you’ll be wet anyway.
Is cotton good for rain?
Cotton is highly absorbent which makes it heavier when it gets wet. It is such an irritating feeling to be wearing wet cotton fabric since it does not dry easily and will keep you wet even when rains stop.
Why is it called a mackintosh?
Mackintosh, waterproof outercoat or raincoat, named after a Scottish chemist, Charles Macintosh (1766–1843), who invented the waterproof material that bears his name. The fabric used for a mackintosh was made waterproof by cementing two thicknesses of it together with rubber dissolved in a coal-tar naphtha solution.
