How long to spend at Wildlife Prairie Park?
Allow two hours for an informative walk through the park. Exhibits are signed. Employees are friendly, helpful and readily answer questions. There’s a prairie farmstead, one room schoolhouse…and around the bend, swings and a slide with a pavilion for parents to rest.

The Park opened for 6 weeks in September 1977 in honor of Mrs. Hazel Rutherford’s birthday, and then officially opened its gates to the public in 1978. Today, Wildlife Prairie Park is proud to continue its mission of conservation, education, and recreation to its nearly 140,000 annual visitors.

Fishing is open to any guest at the park and an Illinois Fishing license can be obtained online through the IDNR website. In addition to regular IDNR rules and regulations, we ask that guests partaking in fishing also follow Wildlife Prairie Park rules and regulations. – Fishing is open during Park hours.

Wildlife Prairie Park is conveniently located 2.5 miles south of I-74. HOURS. Current Hours of Operation: 9 AM to 4:30 PM Daily. In order to ensure each guest is able to enjoy the Park, we limit the last admission to the Park one hour before closing.
