Do coping stones need a drip?
When you purchase your new copings you should ensure each side length has a drip molded into the concrete during manufacturing process. As rain moves down the coping it will try and run under the coping stones. The drips ensure the water drips off and you don’t get capillary attraction into the mortar bed.
How much should a coping stone overhang?
When selecting your coping please allow 25-35mm overhang on each side for the drip channels. Copings are supplied throated.

A flexible dpc will be required below a Coping unit to prevent the downward transfer of moisture into the wall. This dpc should be bedded on both sides, so that it is sandwiched in the joint, and projecting 5mm beyond each face of the wall below.
